Eligibility Requirements
In order to apply for the GED examination, an individual should be
17 years of age or older and no longer enrolled in school
GED Fees
The GED is free for applicants under the age of 21 and Veterans with at least 181 days of active duty.
A GED applicant 21 years of age or older and a non-veteran must pay an initial fee of $13.00 to take the test. The fee to retake or reapply for the test is also $13.00. These fees include the cost of the diploma. Only veterans and applicants under the age of 21 are exempt from fees for GED testing.

To ensure that potential GED examines have access to the GED test, the Connecticut State Department of Education (SDE) has 48 approved GED registration sites located at adult education offices across the state.
