GED Credit in Utah

The GED and High School Credit
In Utah, an Adult Education Program may award up to five units of high school credit for successfully passing the GED Test.  At the discretion of the local School District, these credits may be awarded in the CORE CURRICULUM areas as follows:
0 - 1 credit in English 0 - 1 credit in social studies (excluding United States History and US Government)0 - 1 credit in mathematics?0 - 1 credit in science? The remaining credits may be awarded as elective credits.

THESE POLICIES APPLY ONLY TO ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

Utah College and University Minimum GED Score Requirement
About 75% of GED examinees indicate they plan to pursue further education and training beyond high school.

According to 2002 survey of college admissions officers performed by the American Council on Education, approximately 97% of colleges and universities accept the GED in lieu of a high school diploma, including every college in Utah. Most colleges also have additional admissions requirements (please contact the college for more information). In addition, the majority of financial aid and scholarship programs are available to GED recipients.

Requirements for Retesting
1. Pay retesting fees.
2. Show current government-issued identification each time you retest.
3. GED Retesting in Utah may be accomplished on all tests or selected tests for an unlimited number of times until minimum scores are obtained provided that a period of three weeks has elapsed since the second and subsequent testing, and new forms of the test are available. Typically, in any calendar year, the maximum number of times any one of the 5 GED sub-tests may be retaken is three. Scores will carry over from year to year.
4. The policy immediately above may be partially waived and next-day retesting may be allowed for examinees who score within 30 points of their targeted goal. Hence, as an example, any examinee who scores 380+ on any single test will be permitted to test on another version of that test the next time that test is offered by a GED testing site. If the examinee scores less than 380, the examinee is required to wait 3 weeks to encourage additional GED preparation before the examinee re-takes a GED test.

Passing scores may be upgraded by retesting based on evidence of need.

My GED Note: You cannot take the GED test online
